SECURITY TIPS
One of the most common threats to your home is burglary. The majority of home burglaries occur during the daytime when you are away at work or school. The summer months, being the most active for these crimes.
Doors:
Use solid core or metal doors for all entrance points
Use a heavy duty, deadbolt lock with a one-inch throw bolt
Use a heavy duty, four-screw strike plate with 3-inch screws to penetrate into a
wooden door frame
Use a wide-angle peephole
Sliding glass doors:
Use a secondary blocking device on all sliding doors
Keep latch mechanism in good condition and properly adjusted
Use an anti-lift device such as through-the-door pins or upper track screws
Windows:
Secure all windows with a secondary blocking device
Open windows no more than 6 inches for ventilation
Make sure someone cannot reach through an open window to unlock a door
Use anti-lift devices to prevent window from being lifted out
Neighborhood:
Get to know all your neighbors
Establish trust
Agree to watch each others homes
Lighting:
Use light timers to establish a pattern of occupancy
Exterior lighting around doors and walkways
Home safes:
Keep all valuables/important documents
Security Systems:
Use every time you leave the house so it becomes a routine
Use signs and stickers to let people know that you have a system
Make sure your call list is up to date
Have your system checked regularly
